Nothing animates the garden like butterflies, don't you agree? At Nature Hills, we are often asked to recommend plants that attract butterflies, Hummingbirds, and other pollinators to the garden! The shortlist always includes a Butterfly Bush or two, of course!
A relative newcomer to the Buddleia scene has quickly risen to the top of our list. Buzz™ Soft Pink Butterfly Bush (Buddleja davidii 'Tobudsopin') is a must-have for any serious pollinator garden and a shoo-in for smaller gardens that need soft color, movement, and carefree plants!
Buzz™ Soft Pink is a very elegant ornamental bush! It is a natural dwarf, shorter and more refined than most other Buddleia! It pumps out the pale-pink flower spikes that are accented by dark pink buds for a two-tone effect! The tightly packed florets are honey-scented, blooming from summer through frost. The compact aromatic foliage stays short the whole time.
Planting and Application:
Buzz™ Soft Pink looks great massed in a bed, as a solo focal point, or even in a pot on the patio or balcony. This is a great companion to other Buddleia with the purples, whites, and magenta you are used to seeing! The bright pop makes this a fantastic specimen shrub that really wakes up the landscape!
These are brilliant specimens that light up the Perennial or Cottage garden, mixing beautifully with flowers of all colors! Even containers and planters in the sun can accommodate these small-space shrubs that look fantastic as 'thrillers' and patio accents in the sun! These are incredible space-saving focal points in the Butterfly Garden. Plant one near a path or patio and the shrub will provide a delightful fragrance for you as well!
Try Buzz™ Soft Pink with a ring of lavender plants for an otherworldly juxtaposition of purple spikes and gently arching, pink flowers waving over them. Create a stunning display as a mass planting in your landscape! Create easy-breezy back-of-the-border hedges and airy screening.
Mix and match this butterfly-friendly shrub with other pollinator plants and caterpillar Host Plants like the Monarch-friendly Milkweed plants. This makes it perfect for small urban gardens where butterflies really need nectar and pollen-rich way stations for these migrating and native butterflies alike!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Butterfly Bushes are grown in full sun and average, well-drained soil conditions. Buddleia (sometimes spelled Buddleja) are low-water usage once established and appreciate supplemental moisture during drought and the summer months to keep the flowers returning until frost. Provide a 3-4 inch deep layer of arborist mulch to support your shrub's root system to hold moisture consistently and insulate the roots.
These low-maintenance shrubs are generally deer and pest-free. You can deadhead to keep new blooms returning and tidy up the shrub. Where it gets below freezing, Buzz™ Soft Pink will die down to the ground like an herbaceous perennial, but will come back faithfully every year to resume its place in your garden. Prune in the early spring before new growth emerges to trim to tidy up the bushes or cut them back near to the ground. Either way, these fast growers will return to full size each growing season!
- Full Sun Plants
- Shrub or Perennial Depending on Your Climate
- Well-Drained Soil
- Moderate Moisture & Fertility
